DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Voters swinging strongly towards the PLD

The ruling Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD) has received the first solid piece of encouraging news since the two opposition forces, the Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD) and the Partido Reformista Social Cristiano (PRSC), struck an alliance late last year to contest the 16 May legislative and municipal elections. A highly respected opinion survey puts the PLD in the lead, with 42% of voter preferences, buoyed by a mood which seems to favour the government.
